I am really surprised to see in the reflection video on the NYC BMW Guggenheim Lab, they even mentioned and showed an image of the “one protest” that took place during the project. Therefore, they seem to reference to their “influence” or “inspiration” of even a protest as a positive thing — more press, more discussion, more controversy, etc. They subverted the energy of the protest against itself.

Well it would have been odd if it wasn’t mentioned, and the allusion to it constitutes part of their invented nature as tolerant, open folks who ‘just want to dialogue’.

What’s striking about the video though is just how vacuous it is, and how meagre a return they have gotten. Their website and youtube traffic are pathetic for an operation with the resources at their disposal.

In the run-up to october 15 there was talk of occupying their site in NYC, I dropped down to see if anything was underway (there wasn’t) and there were very few people there on a beautiful saturday afternoon. The whole thing is an optics exercise and not a very succesfully executed one at that.
